Montenegro Residence Permit: Types, Requirements and Application (2026)
Routes to a Montenegro residence permit: property, company, work and family. Requirements, documents and application steps.
Living legally in Montenegro requires a residence permit (boravna dozvola), which also exempts you from the tourist-visa requirement introduced for some nationalities in 2026. Main routes: property-based (1-year renewable permit for buyers), company-based (via a DOO at 9% corporate tax), work-based, and family reunification. Typical documents: valid passport, basis of residence (title deed / company docs / work contract), proof of address, health insurance, criminal record and proof of means. Permits are usually annual and renew while the basis persists. Note: Montenegro's citizenship-by-investment programme closed in 2022 — residence and citizenship are separate.
